Additionally,we are offering this stock at a promotional discount. Chemical Basis for Sensory Changes: Calcium pantothenate (the calcium salt form of vitamin B5) is stable in a dry state. However, when it comes into contact with water, especially under the influence of temperature changes, light exposure, or trace impurities, the following reactions occur: - First, calcium pantothenate undergoes slow hydrolysis, forming pantothenic acid (the main form of vitamin B5) and calcium ions. - Subsequently, pantothenic acid degrades further, producing small-molecule compounds such as β-alanine and dihydroxydimethylbutyric acid. - Among these, β-alanine may react further or combine with other substances under certain conditions, generating an irritating odor similar to "amines" — this is the main source of the unpleasant smell. The higher the concentration used in formulation results in a stronger odor, we advise using less than 2%.
